Motion to Intervene
The proposed landfill will be constructed on a 5,100 acre tract of land near Repton, which is an area approximately 40 miles north of Escambia County, Florida. If the landfill is allowed, it will be one of the largest landfills in the United States, and the landfill will receive hazardous waste from all areas of the country.
As a community downstream of Escambia Creek, and south of the landfill site, and recognizing the potential devastating impact this landfill would have on the aquifers surrounding and underlying this community, the Escambia County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors is of the opinion that the landfill poses a clear and present threat to the environment and the health and quality of life to all the citizens of Escambia County, Florida and asked the Escambia County Commission to join the lawsuit along with the Town of Century.
The lawsuit presently has several matters being reviewed by the Alabama Supreme Court.
